CANADA - The national unemployment rate has dropped to its pre-pandemic level.
Statistics Canada says the Canadian economy added another 72,500 jobs in March and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.3 percent. This is the lowest unemployment rate for March since comparable data became available in 1976.
The national jobless rate was sitting at 5.5 percent in February.
Stats Can says the unemployment rate would have been 7.2 percent for March, if it included the people who wanted a job but did not look for one.
Here in Ontario, the jobless rate is still on par with the national average. It was 5.3 percent in March and 5.5 percent in February.
