St. Michael's Students Shown Traffic Safety

Speeding traffic traveling on Devonshire this morning were getting ticketed. But they weren't getting the usual police tickets. They were made by the St. Michael's Kindergarten class, cautioning them to slow down. The Woodstock Police were at the school showing the students the importance of traffic safety. The Grade 6 class were using the police radar gun to make sure vehicles were driving at the proper speed. Sergeant Neil Butler says it's an important lesson. "It shows the students not only to be safe along the side of the streets, but they also see how fast the vehicles are going past their school. So they can quickly see how fast these cars are passing their school. With a bit of luck, they'll realize that they need to be careful when they're crossing the road," said Butler. Students caught a driver speeding 16 kilometres over the speed limit. The marked speed limit in any school zone is 40km/h. Constable Craig Murray hopes, "they pass this message along to their family members of how important it is to maintain their speed in a school zone for the families' safety as well as the safety of other kids."
