Pat Sobeski wants a second term of office as Woodstock's chief magistrate
WOODSTOCK – Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski will run to keep his job in the October 27 municipal election.
Sobeski filed his nomination papers Tuesday night and has three main reasons that led him to chose to run for a second term as mayor, including an affinity for the other current members of council.
"We've done a lot together as a council, so that's very positive. The second thing is, I think we've established this term a great relationship between the members of council and city staff as we developed a lot of long-range plans. The third thing is just a general feeling I get from around the community that things are going well in Woodstock relative to other communities."
Sobeski says the next term of Woodstock city council faces some interesting issues, including "keeping costs down," while new tax revenue starts to trickle into the city's coffers as the result of investments made in 2012.
"Sysco revenue will start hitting the books," he said, "so it's important that council maintain a fiscal discipline to not spend and be responsible," he said.
"My goal is to make sure that we provide long-term financial stability for the city."
Sobeski also wants to work toward "a vision for where we want the city to be in 2020."
Sobeski says at the Oxford County level, the proposed Walker landfill in Zorra Township is certain to be an issue through the next term of council.
Sobeski issues this challenge to anyone thinking about running against him:
"I'll run on my record and they'll have to determine whether they can poke holes in it," he said.
Sobeski defeated incumbent Michael Harding in the 2010 mayoralty race and served as a Woodstock city councillor for two terms from 2003.
