Ontario Road Builder's Association kick off "Let Us Lead The Way" campaign
Slow down for the blue light.
For the 2nd year, the Ontario Road Builders' Association is out with their Let Us Lead The Way campaign.
It's in attempt to prevent collisions involving snow plows, which can be devastating.
Executive Director Geoff Wilkinson says the easiest way to avoid crashing with a plow, is not to pass them at all. "Our advise to drivers is to be patient. When they see the flashing blue light, slow down and let us lead the way."
Wilkinson says drivers should never attempt to pass a convoy of snowplows that are trying to clear multiple lanes of a highway.
He says they hear all kinds of concerns from snow plow operators about dangerous drivers on the road. "It's a difficult job when you're driving a snow plow especially during the storm. You're dealing with the storm conditions yourself and worrying about other drivers around you, especially those that could cause you problems driving, it's a challenge."
There is some new plowing equipment to be aware of out on the roads this year. A tow plow is a piece of machinery that sees a second blade attached to the side of the plow, that clears the passing lane.
