Ingersoll woman convicted for her involvement with London hit & run sentenced Monday morning.
LONDON -- It's two years probation and 200 hours of community service for Rebecca Smith of Ingersoll.
In October 2013, Smith's husband Toby Van Lieshout hit 10 year-old Tyler Brooks as he rode his bike on a sidewalk in London. Van Lieshout was speeding, lost control, struck Tyler and then fled the scene.
Tyler was left with life-threatening head injuries and remained in a coma for nearly two months before gaining consciousness just days before Christmas. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Smith, who was charged with accessory after the fact, was sentenced in a London courtroom Monday morning.
Smith's lawyer said that Van Lieshout was abusive towards her during their relationship and forced her to cover up the crash.
In January, Van Lieshout plead guilty to failing to remain at the scene of the crash, careless driving and a possession of marijuana charge. He was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison.
