A very proud Police Chief Rod Freeman presented six officers with the Chief's Bravery Commendation award Wednesday. "These brave officers risked their own lives by running into the building and escorting tenants from the third floor, through black smoke to the ground floor." "I am very proud of these officers," said Chief Freeman. The fire took place on April 29th at a Harford Street apartment building. Officers entered the building as people on the third floor were screaming for help. Visibility was zero but the officers made sure all the tenants of the building got out safely. As a result of their efforts the officers were treated for smoke inhalation by EMS. The officers (pictured right) are: Constables Lynch, Allard, Murray, Blair, and Sylvester and Sargent Rudy. Sergeant Randy Rudy on what he was thinking when he arrived on scene, "In this scenario with the fire you work to get people out as soon as possible, we're not so much worried about the consequences of us as police." All the officers are very humble, and none of the officers we spoke too considered themselves heroes. The officers also received an award from the Red Cross. The cause of the fire was later revealed as careless smoking.
