Oxford County didn't hit their annual quota in the 10 Year Shelter Plan, but they're planning on making up for it this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County fell short of their annual quota in the 10 Year Shelter Plan.
In order to reach their goal of 500 by 2025, the county must construct 50 new units a year.
They built 45 in 2017, but Warden David Mayberry says their planning on making up for it with 84 units in 2018.
"We don't get an A this year for our shelter plan. Next year if everything works the way we intended, we're going to get an A+."
The new projects will break ground in Woodstock and Tillsonburg. Mayberry says they're also going to be built to either passive house or net zero standards.
"What we're trying to do is drive down the amount of energy that each one uses so the people living in them can spend their money on day to day living instead of heating and cooling their units."
They're hoping the residents will experience an 80 percent to 90 percent reduction on their heating and cooling bill.
