Seniors have been left in the lurch after a building developer couldn't secure an occupancy certificate for June 1st.
INGERSOLL - Future residents of the Victory Memorial Seniors Complex in Ingersoll have been stuck in limbo over the past week.
The building's developer had discussed a June 1st move in date with some of the residents, but the town has yet to issue an occupancy certificate. This means some residents who moved out of their previous homes and apartments have had to find other living arrangements.
Ingersoll CAO William Tigert explains why the town hasn't given the go ahead at this time.
"Some of the issues that we are dealing with are life safety issues within the building itself and they're critical for the protection of the tenants that they be completed before occupancy is allowed."
The town is working alongside the developer in order to make sure all of the issues are resolved before they issue the certificate.
Tigert says the timeline is in the hands of the developer.
"From the town's perspective we provided the list of deficiencies as we see them necessary to grab the occupancy certificate. It's really up to the developer how they remedy the issue, how fast they move on it, and when they can meet that to get the clearance from the municipality. No one has established a timeline but both parties are working cooperatively to address the issues and try to remedy them as quickly as possible."
The building located at 210 Thames Street South used to be Victory Memorial Public School until it closed down in 2011.
