Oxford County will be full of parades as Santa Claus makes 3 separate appearances today
OXFORD COUNTY - Woodstock will kick off the holiday season tonight with the Santa Claus Parade.
What is promising to be a well attended event will start at 6pm from the Woodstock Fairgrounds. Manager of the Woodstock BIA Kelly Morrison explains what people can expect who line Dundas Street to watch. "It's looking like a great parade one of the biggest ones we have seen in a while. I think this is my 14th parade and it is 100 from top to bottom. It will include everything from the initial police cruiser, dignitaries, marching bands, performing groups, and it is going to be fantastic."
Even though the 2015 parade has yet to be completed Morrison is always looking for donations for 2016's edition. "The BIA has coined it Christmas begins and its traditionally always been the kickoff for Christmas, but we really rely on the bucket brigade that collects during the parade and that is what funds the parade each year. This year we have a big parade, and it comes with a $40,000 budget, we really need the community to come and enjoy, and if they can spare a coin or two to help us cover our budget that would really help us out."
Ingersoll and Tillsonburg will both be celebrating their parades today at 11 and 2pm. Morrison spoke to Heart FM about the ban that has been placed on throwing candy. "We haven't allowed candy or anything to be thrown during the parade while it is moving either from the floats or handing out to the spectators that are on the side. That's been happening since I have been here, and it is due to pure safety. We just can't have any disruptions in the parade and we try to keep it within an hour or an hour and 15 minutes tops."
