Deputy Fire Chief in EZT, Mike Routly files for council position
INNERKIP - A second candidate has come forward to run for Ward 3 council in East Zorra Tavistock.
Mike Routly filed his papers earlier this week and says community encouragement is one reason he decided to run.
"The residents want accountability and transparency within council and they also want a representative that's engaged in the community and a representative who is proactive and not reactive and I feel the issues that will be brought forth, I can do a good job representing them at the council table."
"I've been a resident of the village for many years. I've been a life long resident of Oxford County. Volunteered within the township coaching minor ball, assisting with many projects within the village over the years, been a volunteer firefighter for nearly 20 years and currently serve as the Deputy Fire Chief here in the village of Innerkip."
Routly says in conversation with residents, the same topics keep coming up.
"You always have to be mindful of services for youth and seniors and we certainly have a significant amount of development going on in the village right now so those are things that you always have to continue to monitor closely and have a plan for."
There are two Ward 3 positions up for grabs with incumbent Jeremy Smith the only other name on the ballot at this point.
