Woodstock's new development plan hopes to bring more attraction to its downtown area.
WOODSTOCK - More money is being invested in Woodstock's downtown area.
City council approved $100,000.00 to a new development plan during their latest council meeting on January 17th.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says this will give people more reason to go downtown.
"What this will do is hopefully provide more incentives for people to live and shop and open a business downtown. And the more people that live in our downtown and go for these services and businesses, it builds upon itself and hopefully we'll see a more vibrant downtown."
The study was approved last year, which gave staff a chance to get input from the community, as well as ideas from the BIA and Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, but they were unable to start the development plan.
Birtch says they intend to work on the development plan this year.
"Unfortunately we weren't able to get the work started in 2018, so council has pre-approved it in the 2019 budget so we can get started on it right away."
The idea behind the development plan is to attract more businesses to downtown.
Although nothing has been confirmed, speciality stores and professional services and firms are just some of the ideas being considered.
