OXFORD COUNTY - The family of the late R. Bruce Flowers were formally thanked by Oxford County council today, acknowledging a $250,000 donation to restore a part of the former Oxford jail.
Reconstruction was done to the outside of the building, including the chimneys.
His sister Shelagh Morrison says preserving the old jailhouse was a lifelong goal of his.
"The bartizans were something that he felt were an intrical part of the architectural integrity and so it's lovely to see his dream and his legacy fulfilled."
His brother David says his brother had the original plans done for the building many years ago for $10,000, and the building was built in 1854.
Flowers' family members were presented with a plaque at this morning's council meeting.
Warden Larry Martin says Oxford County is very appreciative of the donation.
"There's a plaque on the door that was done through his generous, generous donation. And hopefully it'll be there, and I know the photos that we gave the family also have a copy of that plaque on it as well. So they're aware of that as well so they'll have that there for years to come."
Warden Larry Martin says the project is done and the family members were taken to the site and took a tour of the building prior to council's presentation.
The presentation also included a video looking at the restoration project, which looked at when the project began to how it was built.
The facility is now a public health building.
The building is on Buller Street in Woodstock and the restoration project began late last year.
