Repair Required for the Vansittart Crypt

He's been gone since 1834, but Admiral Vansittart still holds an importance in the city. Chair of the Woodstock Heritage Committee Tom Simpson says he was the founder of Woodstock in many ways and brought a lot of British immigrants to the area. Simpson says his tomb was damaged: "Tree branches fell on the iron railing around the stone area that goes down into where the actual door to the crypt is, so that needed to be repaired." It cost $5,200 to be restored. The city has agreed to pay $2,000 to complete the repairs.
