The Kintore Optimist Park was packed with dignitaries and spectators as a ceremony was held in honour of Andrew Stoddart
KINTORE - The Kintore Optimist Park was packed with dignitaries and spectators as a ceremony was held in honour of Andrew Stoddart who died on the field 5 weeks earlier. The grade 9 student couldn't be saved after he collapsed on the field.
The family of Stoddart including Andrew's uncle Ron Funnell has made it their mission to equip every playing field with the life saving device. "The fundraising to date is well over $15,000 we have found ourselves in a position where we can buy approximately 7 AED units. The objective is to create a change and have these units across the province and beyond in memory of Andrew."
The Kintore Optimist Park was packed with dignitaries and spectators as a ceremony was held on Saturday in honour of Stoddart who died on May 11th. Funnell spoke with Heart FM about how one player from an opposing team Connor Aarts is helping the fund grow. "He has been fundraising since Andrew's passing on his own, and he presented a cheque for $4,000. That 14 year old boy in the course of basically a month fundraised $4,000, this is not something that ends here this is really the beginning of Andrew's legacy."
Funnell talks about Andrew and how the support has been since his passing. "Andrew was a very healthy kid, he was a very active kid, there is no history what so ever of any problems for Andrew. Our families objective is to do what ever we can so that this doesn't happen to another family, 15 year old kids just shouldn't die. 5 weeks after Andrew's passing this community has really come together to show their support." Educating and informing the public is how Funnell described what they are trying to do and cannot thank the community enough for their financial donations and support over the past 5 weeks.
