Yesterday's daytime high of 14 degree's shattered the record for daytime high's in February in Oxford County
WOODSTOCK - A new record has been set for daytime high's during the first week of February.
Meteorologist with Environment Canada Etienne Gregoire tells Heart FM yesterday's daytime high actually doubled the previous record.
"Actually you shattered the record, the old record for the Woodstock and London area is 7.8 degrees back in 1991 and yesterday we hit a daytime high of 14.7 degrees, so we really shattered this record."
He does say we shouldn't get too used to the spring time weather as the mercury is expected to dip back down to the freezing mark over the next couple of days and into next week.
"Next few days, near normal or even warmer than normal temperatures will persist, not as extreme as yesterday, we are still going to daytime highs a couple of degrees a couple of degrees above normal values and night time lows will be about the same, so highs around 0 and lows around minus 5 or minus 6. We likely won't be dealing with any really cold days until mid to late next week."
However he does expect the weather will be warmer than normal for the month of February and says we are basically experiencing an El Nino winter in Southwestern Ontario.
"What we are experiencing is a typical El Nino year but more pronounced, historically with El Nino years over the Great Lakes basin, this is typically what we see, warmer temperatures than usual and less precipitation than usual and their is no sign up that breaking up in the medium term."
