The Ingersoll District Chamber of Commerce recognized several local people and organizations for their amazing work.
INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll District Chamber of Commerce has handed out their Awards of Excellence for 2016.
The Youth Entrepreneur/Citizen Award was presented to Emily Cude, for her work with her business Emily Kate Couture and with the non profit group Transitions to Less Waste.
Cude says winning this honour is a huge boost for her, especially because she just started her business this past August.
"As a new business owner there's always the question of, can I make a go of this? Can I make it work for my family and actually make a career of it? So winning this award and being recognized by my community was a great boost in that area."
Ron Archer was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award. He is the Coordinator of Development with Children's Aid, an active member of the Rotary Club, and takes part in a lot of holiday fundraisers and events.
The Canterbury Folk Festival was awarded the President's Award. The festival has been prevalent in the Ingersoll community for almost 18 years and had a zero waste goal this past summer. In the end they only had two bags of garbage.
Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey, the Chair and Artistic Director of the festival, believes the festival will continue to provide free entertainment for years to come.
"It has reached over 100,000 people over the years. I think that it will certainly blossom off into the future long after a lot of us are gone because it has got a good strong base, it has got a good future and it's a lot of fun."
Ingersoll Services for Seniors 50+ Activity Centre took home the Business/Industry of the Year Award and Embro Farm Systems and Performance Dairy Centre won the Agricultural Award.
