TILLSONBURG - The Town Clerk for Tillsonburg is set to retire in the New Year.
Donna Wilson has been the Town clerk since 2010 and her retirement will take effect in February. Wilson has worked with the Town at several positions over the years. She fondly remembers her first job with the Town as a swimming instructor.
"I started working at the Community Centre in 1986. It was a great job while my children were young."
In 1994, Wilson became a bus driver with the Town, and was later promoted to manage the fledgling transit project.
"I drove the very first bus route when the service started, and the very last route when the bus program was cancelled in 2001."
In 2002, Wilson shifted to the role of receptionist/records manager and started taking courses to earn her diploma in Municipal Administration from the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario. Shortly after that, Wilson became the Community Development Coordinator, a position that saw her working closely with the Town Clerk. She continued her studies, eventually earning an undergraduate Diploma of Public Administration from Western University. Wilson was promoted into the Town Clerk role in 2010.
Acting CAO Ron Shaw says Wilson's story is inspirational.
"Donna's story is an inspirational one. Her longevity with the Town and her rise to a senior position is a testament to her dedication and character."
Wilson says she is looking forward to retirement.
"I've enjoyed my time with the Town immensely, but I'm looking forward to having my Monday nights free again."
