Quintin Is Home and Making Progress

After 11 trips to the operating room and months of rehab, the recovery efforts are starting to take shape for a 10 year old boy from Tillsonburg.

TILLSONBURG - A 10 year old boy from Tillsonburg is moving along nicely in his recovery after a nightmare family vacation this summer at the Tea Cup Rock in P.E.I.

Quintin Ketchabaw faced a life or death situation when a falling boulder pinned his leg. He severed a main artery in his leg and it broke the femur bone in his left leg.

Quintin's mom Charlene Brown says he has had 11 trips to the operating room since the accident, however he is starting to make some real progress.

"He has been attending school every day, he has appointments next week. The skin graft is healing quite well, pretty much fully healed now, we are still waiting on ortho instructions to see if he can put pressure on his leg and start walking again. The bone is starting to heal, but just starting, it was a significant break so it will take a bit of time. He is in a wheelchair for long distances, but other than that he is walking around with a walker and starting to bend the left knee and it is going to take a bit of time with physio as well to heal and to be ready but that is where he is at right now."

After news broke of the accident the community stepped up in a big way. It started with Quintin's baseball team doing a bottle drive. Domino's Pizza held a big fundraiser for him, so did the Norwich Museum and Boston Pizza. A GoFundMe generated some funds for the family as well.

Brown says the outpour of support from the community has been overwhelming, from fundraisers to just general help from family, friends and strangers.

"It was just amazing the support that came in and not just financially, just people sending messages and asking how he is doing and checking in and supporting him that way, everything the community has done has been amazing and truly a blessing."

Quintin was able to go to his baseball teams award banquet earlier this week and thank them for all the work they have done to support him. He also got to meet Trevor Oates from adult baseball, who made him a bat and the team all signed it and then sent to Halifax when he was in the hospital for motivation.
