Starting today eligible PSW's will start earning between $2 to $3 dollars more per hour during the pandemic.
ONTARIO - The Province of Ontario is providing PSW's a much deserved raise during the pandemic.
The raise for eligible PSW workers will be in effect until March of 2021. Premier Doug Ford wanted to give a huge thank you to all of the PSW's making a difference during the pandemic.
"They are doing a heck of a job and I want to give a special shout out to all of our PSW's today, thank you for everything you do and I absolutely love you, I really do, you are amazing people and you are absolute champions as I always say. If you see a PSW this week, please be sure to thank them."
Ford says they also bringing in reinforcements.
"We are going to send them reinforcements, we are recruiting over 2,000 PSW's through our fall preparedness plan, we are putting 3,700 more boots on the ground to support our health care system but all of us have a role to play in fighting the second wave and stopping this deadly virus from spreading."
The province is providing a temporary wage increase effective October 1, 2020 to over 147,000 workers who deliver publicly funded personal support services:
- $3 per hour for approximately 38,000 eligible workers in home and community care;
- $3 per hour for approximately 50,000 eligible workers in long-term care;
- $2 per hour for approximately 12,300 eligible workers in public hospitals; and
- $3 per hour for approximately 47,000 eligible workers in children, community and social services providing personal direct support services for the activities of daily living.
