Protect Your Pets During the Solar Eclipse

Cats and dogs can't wear solar eclipse glasses like we can.

OXFORD COUNTY - Lots of people in Oxford are getting ready for the solar eclipse.  

An eclipse can be dangerous for your eyes, so you have to wear protective glasses if you want to watch the celestial event on Monday, April 8th. 

Foster Coordinator Anna Holmes from Oxford County Animal Rescue explains what you should do with your pets during the eclipse. 

"Their eyes would be just as affected as ours would be if they were to look up. The difference between the light and air might spook them a bit, so it's best to keep them indoors in the afternoon between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. after it's completed."

Pets may show signs of anxiety or distress like pacing, panting, or hiding, so it's important to keep them, entertained or distracted. If you have a cat who likes to sit on the window-sill and birdwatch, close the blinds for the time being.
 
Holmes also adds that there aren't any eclipse glasses or pinhole boxes for your pets to look in during the eclipse.
