Oxford OPP want to make sure everyone has a fun and safe time this prom season.
Prom season is upon us in Oxford County.
Lots of teens will dress up, take cheesy photos and dance the night away with their classmates. They might even head over to an after party once the dance wraps up.
Oxford OPP Constable Stacey Culbert says they want to make sure everyone has a safe and fun evening.
"It's a time when drinking is certainly evident but also we usually have an increase in sexual assaults that occur. We want to make sure there are responsible people with you, if you are going to be enjoying a party afterwards just make sure you are doing so responsibly."
Culbert encourages students to have a serious conversation with their parents beforehand, just to make sure they have a quick way home if things turn for the worst.
"Have a plan. Have a code you can text them just to say you know what it's time for me to leave and I need you to come, no questions asked come pick me up."
Parents should also take note of what time their teens are supposed to be home.
OPP will also be extra vigilant over the next couple of weeks, conducting more RIDE programs in order to make sure no one is driving impaired.
