The rainbow pride flag that was flying high in Ingersoll has been taken down and destroyed.
INGERSOLL - Oxford OPP are investigating after the rainbow pride flag that was flying in Ingersoll was taken down and stolen.
Oxford OPP are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the act of mischief that occurred sometime between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm on Monday afternoon. The flag was removed from the flag in the park located at the corner of Thames Street and Charles street and was later found in a garbage can badly damaged.
The town of Ingersoll decided to fly the flag to show it's support to the local pride coalition and as a way to honour the victims in Orlando. Mayor Ted Comiskey tells Heart FM he understands that people have a difference of opinion, but this news is sad.
"It's sad that different people have to go to the extremes that they go to, certainly differences of opinion are welcome within our society and they are accepted only if they are dealt with respect and I believe at this point in time whoever removed the flag was not dealing with respect."
Comiskey says they are still waiting to hear from the Police as to what the motive was behind the theft. He adds one of the reasons they decided to fly the flag was to show that we are all one community.
"In recognition or to understand that we are all part of a community and we must, we must reflect that, that we are all part of the community."
Oxford OPP are investigating and we will provide you with more information as soon as it becomes available. Anyone with information on this criminal act is asked to contact Oxford OPP or Crime Stoppers.
