Pot Not Supported by Local MP

With marijuana set to be legalized in Canada this Wednesday, Oxford's Conservative MP thinks it's going to be a disaster.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford's Conservative MP doesn't think Canada is ready for legal recreational marijuana.

With the legalization date set for this Wednesday, Dave MacKenzie thinks we're rushing into this too fast.

"I don't think as a whole we know enough about its effects, particularly with young people. I think down the road we're going to regret what we're doing."

He also believes local police officers are going to have a hard time with enforcement.

"The policing of it is going to be rather difficult. Chief Renton and his staff and the OPP and their staff are going to have some difficult times in trying to police the quantities that are grown, impaired driving and all of the issues."

Before his political career; MacKenzie dedicated 30 years to Woodstock Police and was the Chief from 1987 to 1997.

With marijuana still illegal in most of the U-S, MacKenzie can picture a lot of Canadians being turned around at the border and banned for five years because they tried to bring their pot with them.

He believes our country is simply not ready for this.
