After years of hard work, the fully accessible playground in Ingersoll is ready to be enjoyed.
INGERSOLL - The new fully accessible playground in Ingersoll is now open to serve children no matter what their level of ability is.
A special gathering was held to officially open the playground that took 4 days to build and cost over $200 000. Co-founder and Vice-President of PlayRight Playgrounds, Adam Funnell says it's great to see all the hard work pay off. "We are pretty overwhelmed to see this come together, we have been working on this particular project since the day we started, so about 6 years. The volunteers - I can't say enough about them. We had no less than 50 volunteers each day it was an amazing thing to see. This build was unique in that it was so big, somewhere around 150 holes were drilled into the ground for the posts; trying to coordinate that was quite the task."
Volunteer with the project and Deputy Mayor of Ingersoll, Fred Freeman, is excited to see this project finalized. "The playground is fantastic, I am so very proud of the committee! They worked so hard to come up with the funding and come up with ideas. Many people jumped in and said yes I'll help, there was also a lot of people that were the organizers and they just made it happen."
This was PlayRight's 5th build in Ingersoll and it is equipped with a paved walking path and splash pad. The playground is geared towards kids between 18 months and 5 year of age. Freeman also spoke with Heart FM about how this will impact kids especially those who suffer from disabilities. "This is my second build, and not only can all the kids in town play on this new structure but the most important part of this is it is accessible. Rather than pulling up in a wheelchair and watching their friends play they can now go right out on to the structure, and it is interactive for them as well."
