Police say two new phone scams have surfaced.
WOODSTOCK -- Woodstock Police are warning the public about a pair of fraudulent scams making the rounds.
In a media release, WPS say the caller will identify themselves as a police officer, border security officer or bank security agent. The caller asks the victim to take money out of their bank account and then wire those funds out of country to assist in an investigation of a dishonest bank employee.
A second scam that has also popped up is a person posing as an officer asking for donations towards an anti-bullying campaign. They ask the victim to provide the funds through a credit card payment.
Anyone who receives a call from an individual posing to be an officer or someone pretending to represent the police, who is asking for funds, hang up immediately and call your local police department. Fraudulent calls can also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or www.antifraudcentre.ca.
