A van carrying a family of 10 collided with an SUV Friday evening.
MAPLETON TOWNSHIP - The Wellington OPP is investigating a devastating crash in Mapleton Township.
Police say a van and an SUV collided at the corner of 4th Line and Wellington Road 12 Friday evening, killing five children and injuring six others.
Ten people were travelling in the van at the time and one person was in the SUV. Police say the children, three girls and one boy, were all from Elmira and their ages ranged from four to 12. The injured include an infant, the kid's parents and grandparents and the driver of the SUV.
The OPP is launching a rural traffic safety enforcement blitz this week, but officials say the timing is a tragic coincidence.
