Oxford County Council approved the 2023 reports for Waste Management, Wastewater Performance, Water Quality, and Energy yesterday.
OXFORD COUNTY -Oxford County Council has signed off on from annual reports from Public Works.
The 2023 Waste Management, Wastewater Performance, Water Quality, and Energy reports were all carried by council yesterday, but one really stood out with Warden Marcus Ryan.
''Our energy costs have grown less than the rate of inflation for energy so in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and increasing our amount of renewable energy we use, the energy bill that we inevitably tax residents for is less than it would have been if we just kept doing the same old same.''
Councillor Mayberry was however concerned about the energy rates, but Warden Ryan adds that it's not going to cost a lot of money in the report that was given.
''This is another area, where, can we actually do this and if we can do it? It's going to cost us a lot of money which is quite the opposite in the report we got. Oxford County's energy use has grown less than you would think our demand would have based on this number of square footage of facilities. We have in the population growth we have.''
The County's 2023 renewable energy generation has increased by 125% since 2015.
Oxford is working to promote community viability, enhancing environmental sustainability, and fostering progressive governments. All tie into sustainable infrastructure and development, climate change, and adaption, and continuous improvement and results-driven solutions.
Staff approved the 2023-2026 strategic plan that advances council's vision of, "working together for a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable future."
