SIMCOE - A homeowner in Simcoe contacted police after they received a call from an individual claiming to be a police officer.
OPP responded to the incident last Thursday night at a residence on South Drive in Simcoe. The person said the resident was being investigated by police and they needed the last four numbers of their social insurance number, along with their email and home address.
The victim contacted police immediately after they became suspicious when they were asked for their banking information.
The OPP say if you you receive a call from someone claiming to be a police officer, they urge all residents to hang up the phone. They will not call to ask about any financial information or ask for your social insurance number.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking for the public's help with this investigation. If anyone has any information they are being asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
