OPP would like to remind hunters of the proper etiquette while they're out about this hunting season.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's hunting season and OPP would like to remind hunters out there of the proper etiquette.
Police have some tips to make sure all hunters are being safe and following the rules;
- Make sure your weapons have the right paperwork and possession codes. Always follow these codes for the weapon you have.
- Be sure of your game, your zone and your date. Always follow the Ministry of Natural Resources guidelines.
- Make sure you always have permission to access properties. One of the biggest complaints with hunters is trespassing and you should never hunt in an area where you don't have permission.
- If you plan on using your own property, be courteous to you neighbours and inform them of the hunting activities. This will prevent any surprises or calls to police.
- Be aware of what's behind your target and shoot in a safe direction.
- Have a start and finish time and location to hunt as, this can help you if you need help or get lost.
- Have a backup plan. This means having methods of removing game or dealing with an injury.
OPP would like hunters to have a fun and safe time while they're out there this season.
