Oxford Gardens shows off its spacious new expansion to the community
The public got a glimpse into the immaculate Oxford Gardens on Saturday.
With the new 4-storey 82 unit expansion now complete, the owners opened the doors to their facility on Saturday for an open house.
The old building has been joined onto the newer one, making for a combined 180-units that share a large recreation area.
Owner Bill Van Haeren says it's definitely one of the highlights for him. "We moved the movie theatre from the existing place over here to make it larger. We have a second pool table here, shuffleboard, we found a nice bowling lane, lawn bowling, we have a putting green...we have something for everyone, we like to keep them busy."

Residents started moving in September 1st, and the new building is about half full.
Van Haeren says he's impressed with the final product. "I'm very proud of it. It turned out better than we expected. Sure, you visualize stuff and work through it, but it turned out better than we expected."

General Manager Nelia Hunt tells Heart FM what else they're working on. "We're looking at implimenting a Memory Care Wing in 2014. We're working with some experts to make sure guidelines and support systems are in place for those seniors in the community, and those in Oxford Gardens that require support systems."
The memory care wing will cater to those with Alzheimers and dementia.
