Oxford People Against the Landfill have retained the services of an environmental consultant. Professional Geoscientist Wilf Ruland will write a peer review on Walker Environmental's landfill proposal. The report will look at Walker's Terms of Reference and Environmental Assessment. Ruland has over two decades of experience in Ontario alone. "One of my specializations is landfills and their impacts on groundwater and surface water. The folks at OPAL had done some research and came across my name and contacted me to see if I'd be able to take this on for them, and I said sure. It's the the sort of work I've done lots of before," said Ruland. He has worked around landfills in Windsor, St. Catherines, Brockville, and Hamilton to name a few. He says his peer review will be impartial and will be given directly to the Ministry of the Environment. Walker's Terms of Reference won't be finished until February, which is when Ruland will start writing the review. OPAL is holding a meeting on Tuesday evening at 7pm in the union hall at 364 Victoria Street, Ingersoll. Guests speakers from Thorold will talk about their experiences living by a landfill.
