OPAL hosting a jam packed day of fundraising and awareness this Saturday
Oxford People Against the Landfill are ramping up their awareness campaign against the proposed Walker landfill with a weekend full of events.
They will begin Saturday morning at 8am helping with the Thames River Cleanup.
OPAL Chairperson Steve McSwiggan says he will be amongst four people giving speeches in the afternoon from 1:30-3:30pm at the Ingersoll Arena.
"Ted Comiskey, he has come out and said quite frankly, why risk it? Then we have George Henry who will be speaking from the First Nations perspective and then of course Maude Barlow who has been a spokes person for water and upholding the right of citizens for water and upholding water and what water really means for us as human beings."
McSwiggan says it's important as many people come out as possible to show their support.
"Help us win this and really, really drive home the message to everybody that we are all involved in this community effort. It's not just a small group of people but it involves everybody and I would love to see everybody come out to this event."
McSwiggan says the main attraction for most people will be happening Saturday night.
"There's live entertainment, dancing and it should be a big event. Something that Ingersoll really hasn't had in quite a while, all under the roof of the arena."
There will also be a cash bar and silent auction. Tickets for the event are $20 and can be purchased at Louie's, Butterworth's Coffee Culture and Record Works.
