Officials say both fires took place in the last month.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department would like to remind everyone how oily or greasy rags should be stored.
This comes after two fires took place this month.
Fire Chief Jeff Slager says the rags used for cleaning, maintenance or renovations can spontaneously combust.
"We want to stress the importance of following instruction labels on products, especially on those that are flammable in nature, for both use and disposal. Taking the necessary precautions, either at work or home, can significantly reduce the risk of fire hazards in our community."
He says you should lay the rags out in a single layer on a non-flammable surface to dry completely before you store them in a metal container with a tight fitting lid. They should also be in a well ventilated area that's away from heat sources.
If you have any questions, you can call the Woodstock Fire Department at 519-537-3412 with extension 5205.
