One high school student will be awarded the Pride Leadership Award.
WOODSTOCK - The Oxford County Pride Committee will be handing out the first Pride Leadership award to a recipient in the community.
President of the Oxford County Pride Committee, Tami Murray says the recipient will recognized for their leadership, demonstrated through a variety of activities.
"We're looking for a youth in grades 11 or 12 who have demonstrated exemplarily leadership activities in the community, and that can be involving community service organizations, sports etc."
This is the first time the committee is handing out the award.
Murray says the award is named in memory of the late CASS student Tyrell Maas. Maas lost his life to suicide.
"As a committee, we thought that money should be uniquely used for youth specifically in Oxford County, and we also wanted to memorialize Tyrell and the family loss and so we decided to create an academic award in his name."
You can go to www.oxfordcountypride.ca or to their Facebook page to submit an application.
In order to nominate a local student, the committee is looking for recommendations from a teacher and an essay. The recipient will receive a $500.00 bursary and they can either donate to their post-secondary education or a charity of their choice.
The deadline ends April 30th.
