After 62 years on Ontario Street; Samsonite has moved to a larger facility on C H Meier Boulevard.
STRATFORD - Samsonite has a new home in Stratford.
The luggage company opened their original facility on Ontario Street back in 1956. Fast forward about 62 years later, Samsonite employees are all settled into their new facility on C H Meier Boulevard, after their big move in June.
Store Manager Karen Deplanque says they had to move to a bigger facility to accommodate the growing demand.
"We're excited to have more square footage to work with. We do all of Samsonite warehouse and distribution across Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia; as well as all of our independent stores and our company stores."
Samsonite has 16 stores across Canada and employs about 40 to 50 people in Stratford.
Deplanque says they didn't need to hire a new work force for the facility.
"We had five warehouses in Stratford. What we've done is we've amalgamated everything under one roof now. Those locations had all of the employees that they've needed, we just now get to familiarize ourselves with everybody's face because we now work together as a team."
The big move comes just in time for their annual warehouse sale; which takes place every civic holiday long weekend.
