The local chapters of the Rotary Club have each elected new presidents
WOODSTOCK – The local chapters of Rotary Club International have each elected new presidents.
Rotary club of Woodstock-Oxford is now led by Edwin Van Weerdhuizen, owner of Great Lakes Millwrighting and auditing firm PRT Services.
Van Weerdhuizen said his main goal is to attract more members to the organization.
"We need to be more active in the community and make our presence known. I would like to work on the recruitment of new members who are interested in giving back to the community as well as internationally," he said.
"I'm looking forward to an intertsting year. I'm relatively new to Rotary and I have a lot to learn. I have a great club and a great group of people in the organization that support me and I look forward to working with them to make it even better," Van Weerdhuizen said.
Meanwhile, South Gate Centre executive director Chris Cunningham takes over at the Rotary Club of Woodstock.
Cunningham wants to help the club get back to its roots of being active in the community.
"It's really all about community for us. Rotary is a local service club and our theme that we're going to be embarking on is 'Light Up Rotary,'" she said.
"I really want Rotary to become a household name. I want people to understand what it's about and to know that we're here in the community. We're alive and we are kicking and we're here to make a difference," Cunningham said.
"Rotary will become much more apparent in the community," she said.
