The Woodstock Public Library will be officially launching their seed library just in time for spring.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will be getting its own Seed Library.
It will be located in the Woodstock Public Library. Tom Butler, the Vice Chair of the Environmental Advisory Committee, explains how a seed library works.
"They will sign out the seeds in the spring when they're planting their gardens. The idea is they then have to return a sample of the seeds they grow to the library at the end of the growing season and the cycle will continue."
If you have any seeds you can bring them in a small container. You can also bring some instructions so the people who sign the seeds out know how to properly take care of the plant.
Butler tells Heart FM they will have a variety of plants available.
"Currently we have had donations of bean seeds and I will be donating some local heirloom tomato seeds. We are hoping for some flowers and herbs as well."
Butler says they are eager to get started and the hope to see the library flourish and grow.
"The grand opening of the seed library will be taking place on Saturday, March 12th at 10 a.m. at the Woodstock Library. It will be on the second floor of the library. There's a little place with an old card catalogue set up that we will have all the seeds in."
