IDCI students will see the aftermath of distracted driving/drinking and driving on May 15th.
INGERSOLL -- Students at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute will be getting a first hand look at what drinking and driving can do.
A mock disaster is planned for May 15 at the school where emergency officials will be on scene at the school and students will act out a head on collision with real vehicles and assistance from the local funeral home.
Mock Disaster Coordinator Michelle Foster says she was a student during the first mock disaster at the school two years ago.
"It was very realistic with the makeup and having one of the school police officers narrate through the entire presentation it really spoke to the students and actually one of the students had a very strong reaction to the presentation and you could hear a pin drop outside, it was so quite because it was so realistic to the student."
"It's important to the students because it's just before May 2-4 weekend and before prom season and it's just helping to raise awareness because coming from students and seeing their own friends in the mock crash, it may be realistic to them and hopefully reach out to them in a different way."
Foster says Woodstock resident Mary Rodriguez will also be the guest speaker for the day. She lost her four month old child to a drunk driver in October of 2008.
