Million Dollar Development Begins This Fall

A new maintenance facility that'll be built on Springbank Ave has received an increase of $163,000. The new building will feature washrooms and lunchrooms for staff, and a four bay equipment storage area.

WOODSTOCK - A new maintenance building project near Cowan Fields has been given an increase in funding.

The project, which was originally approved at $900,000 in this year's capital budget, will see an increase of $163,000.

Mayor Trevor Birtch says the building will be an expansion of the existing facility on Southside Park.

"So much like the maintenance department at Southside Park we will now have two facilities, one at Southside Park and one at Devonshire Avenue at the Cowan Fields location and this will allow us to continue to keep the trails and parks beautiful for everyone of all ages here in the Friendly City."

Mayor Birtch adds the new building will feature washrooms and lunchrooms for staff. In addition, it will have a four bay equipment storage area and a wash bay.

Woodstock City council has awarded it to Tillsonburg's P.K Construction, which will cost $1,038,696.

He says staff is confident the new project will get underway very soon.

"This is definitely a good thing. We continue to see intensification, more business, more industry coming to the city, and with that the need for more residential homes. So having our facility now on the northern side of the city, it's going to allow staff to take care all of those parks and trails to the standard that residents have been used to for so many years."

Mayor Birtch adds the increase is partially funded by the Development Charges Parks Reserves and Capital Projects Reserves; $146,000 will come from the Development Charges Parks Reserves and $17,000 will come from the Capital Projects Reserves.

Staff's report says as result of the increase, there will be some changes made to the 2019 capital budget program. The full report can be found here.
