We're in for lots of rain heading into this weekend, and the Long Point Region Conservation Authority says you should be careful around local waterways due to high water conditions.
LPRCA - The Long Point Region Conservation Authority is warning about the potential for flooding in low lying areas as we get hit with plenty of rain over the next few days.
The rain started last night and is expected to continue into Saturday. This is caused by remnants of Hurricane Pamela. Some areas could get hit with 20-30 mm of rain, with others near the great lakes getting upwards of 30-50 mm or more.
This will result is high water conditions in local rivers and streams. Strong winds on the weekend could also induce storm surge and wave conditions on Lake Erie late Friday into Saturday.
The public is reminded to exercise caution around all local waterways, especially as flows and levels are elevated. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are reminded to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses.
Landowners are also advised to make sure dams, culverts, and catch basins are free from debris and functioning properly, if safe to do so.
This Flood Outlook is in effect until 12:00 PM, Monday October 18th.
