A $28-million lawsuit has been launched over the proposed Gunn's Hill Wind Farm.
The East Oxford Community Alliance have provided a draft legal claim to Prowind Canada Inc. and Gunn's Hill Windfarm Inc., the companies behind the proposal.
They are planning to construct 10 wind turbines in Norwich Township with construction perhaps beginning next year.
The draft lawsuit cites declining property values, and health hazards associated with industrial wind turbines as the reason for the suit.
The devaluation of homes is projected in the 34.5% to 55% range, based on previous media and MPAC reports.
Vice President of Pro Wind, Juan Anderson tells Heart FM they disagree with the claim. "We're reviewing the content of the draft claim. On the surface it appears similar to those that have been filed elsewhere in the province. We refute the idea that wind farms decrease property values, and that's supported by multiple studies around the world that has consistently found there's no statistical evidence that links wind projects to widespread reduced property values."
Anderson says the threat of a lawsuit will not change their plan to put up the turbines.
Construction could begin next year.
Norwich Township has also declared itself an "unwilling host" to the turbines.
Heart FM hopes to speak with the lawyer behind the claim, Eric Gillespie. Keep tuned for further details this afternoon on Heart FM News.
