Oxford County Public Health is encouraging everyone to get tested for free as part of World Hepatitis Day.
WOODSTOCK - People in Oxford are encouraged to recognize World Hepatitis Day and get tested during a free drop in clinic.
Public Health Nurse Lisa Gillespie says it's important to use this day to draw attention to a terrible disease.
"There's an estimated 600,000 Canadians that are infected with Hepatitis B and C, for instance, and almost half of them are unaware. And viral Hepatitis is a serious liver disease that can lead to liver failure, cancer, cirrhosis if left untreated and people can unknowingly pass the disease to others."
To help people find some peace of mind, Oxford County Public Health will have a free testing clinic at 410 Buller Street.
"This year's theme is 'Know Your Status, Get Tested, Learn Your Options'. So Oxford County Public Health is offering a drop in testing day on Thursday July the 28th between 9 and 11 in the morning and 2 and 4 in the afternoon to get tested."
