It was another morning show interview with Warden Marcus Ryan. He covered a range of topics today.
OXFORD COUNTY - The topic of child care space was back on the County Council agenda.
Council received a report from staff, which talked about where the County is at in providing child care services. Warden, Marcus Ryan says if the municipalities can work with those that who provide the services, it would go a long way.
"In Oxford for the last decade, one of the biggest economoic development hurdles has been workforce availability. So, this could be providing a service people want, you could make money off of it if you build it, and people get out in the workforce."
Ryan adds it is the capital funding that child care companies have a hard time with, and it is usually the municipalities that are good at getting space and building a facility. He said one example is the new Zorra Municipal building as the YMCA pays rent for the 88 space child care facility.
Another topic discussed was the 401 Lakeview Drive development. County Council approved the development, while the City of Woodstock is be appealing. A developer is looking to add over 250 housing units to a 10 acre property in the north end of Woodstock. Warden Ryan has this to say.
"I would like to get to a point where there are houses in Oxford for everybody and they just go and rent or buy and they look after themselves. I think we all want that to happen."
Warden Ryan says he understands the residents concerns, which is that if the development does get approved, the land would become over developed and not have enough room. Ryan also knows the housing crisis needs to be addressed.
