Brant County has opened more outdoor recreation amenities, including skate parks, picnic shelters, sports fields, basketball and other multi use courts, along with River access points.
BRANT COUNTY - The County of Brant has re-opened more outdoor recreation amenities.
Below is a list of additional recreational amenities which are re-opening for use:
- As of May 27, 2020, outdoor picnic shelters are open.
- As of May 27, 2020, all skate parks are open.
- As of May 27, 2020, all sports fields are open for casual use only (no organized or team sports at this time).
- As of May 27, 2020, all basketball / multi-purpose courts are open.
- As of May 30, 2020, Bean Park River Access point and Penman’s Dam Portage/Launch are open. Eric Thomlinson River Access point in Glen Morris re-opened on May 16, 2020.
County-owned trails and parks are still open for public use as well. You still have to follow all of the COVID-19 protocols and phyiscal distancing measures. This includes staying 2 metres apart, and you cannot gather in groups larger than 5.
As directed by the Province of Ontario, the following amenities remain closed:
- Outdoor playgrounds, play structures and equipment
- Outdoor fitness equipment
- Outdoor pools and splash pads
- Indoor recreational facilities
Brant County Mayor David Bailey called into Heart FM today to talk about opening up some of the outdoor areas. In the interview he discusses the following:
- The importance of maintaining physical distancing
- By-law will continue to enforce the rules
- Moving more employee's over to by-law, to keep them employed and to help cover all of the
- The excellent work of residents in following the guidelines and not wanting to have to close things back up
- Watching the numbers to see if more things can re-open
- Restrictions still in place at funerals, by-law has been used at Funeral Homes, which was a tough thing to do
- The incredible work staff have been doing during this pandemic.
