Ingersoll Blockade Still Going Strong

Day 3 of the locomotive lockdown in Ingersoll. CAW members are steadfast in their protest against Caterpillar, which has locked out employees at the Electro-Motive plant in London, after making pay cut demands of up to 50 per cent. CAW Local 27 Plant Chair Bob Scott was at the Ingersoll protest this morning, and says it continues to go strong. "At this point, they have not made any attempt to come in and get it (the locomotive), we've probably got between 15 and 25 people there watching the locomotive and we're going to be doing that around the clock." The protest is preventing an EMD locomotive from being moved out to be painted by what the union members call "scab labour". The protest is getting heavy support from Ingersoll's CAW Local 88. President Dan Borthwick told Heart FM since the first day, there has been no confrontations at the scene. He says OPP attend the scene "once or twice" a day, and say police are generally pleased how tame the protesters are. We'll have more later today on how the greater Ingersoll community has been supporting this effort.
