Woodstock curlers hurried hard all week and managed to donate over 600 pounds of food for Operation Sharing.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Curling club was able to donate over 600 pounds of food for Operation Sharing over the holidays.
President Tim Favacho says he is extremely proud of the members for stepping up.
“I couldn't be more proud of The Woodstock Curling Centre and our curlers in being so generous this season to help out the less fortunate in our community. They really stepped up to provide countless non perishable food items, pet food and personal hygiene products."
Acting Executive Director Shawn Shapton and Board President Marilyn Schmiedl came by to pick up the items on the weekend. Favacho says they were able to load up the entire truck.
“This year we filled both of our large bins and actually they were overflowing. To put it in perspective I would guess we collected approximately over 600 pounds of food which, for those curlers out there, equates to roughly the weight of 16 curling stones combined. The bags of donations filled Shawn Shapton’s truck with no room to spare."
The Woodstock Curling Club has a long tradition of giving back to the community and they do this drive, or similar drives every year over the holidays. Favacho says it is just one small way they can give back to the community.
“With the help of Heart FM getting the word out and the generosity of our Curlers at The Woodstock Curling Centre I feel we have truly made some sort of a difference in our Community."
