Today is World Habitat Day and Habitat For Humanity is advocating for the need for affordable housing.
People around the world are celebrating World Habitat Day by raising awareness for the work of Habitat for Humanity.
Here in Oxford Habitat for Humanity Heartland has been able to build two homes in Woodstock and another in Ingersoll recently.
General Manager of Partnerships and Programs Sharon Brennan says they are already looking at a new project.
"We're going to go to Tillsonburg next and we're just in the stage where we look for land and families and we always do that first because it's easier to build a home if you can put a face to the family that's going to be living there."
To help celebrate the day they are encouraging people to volunteer their time or donate some funds. They are also reminding people that the ReStore provides the funds to cover the overhead and operational costs of the organization.
"That means that if the public donates money to a build all of that money goes directly to the build because there is no overhead or operational costs that are paid through our donations."
Celebrations were held at the ReStores from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today.
