One Norwich Township Councillor feels the Smoke Free Ontario Act is going too far and could have negative impacts.
NORWICH - One Norwich Township Councillor is not agreeing with the Smoke Free Ontario Act that came into effect January 1st.
During Norwich Council's meeting Tuesday morning, Lynne DePlancke expressed her displeasure with the province passing an act that bans smoking as well as the use of chewing tobacco products on any municipal grounds.
DePlancke fears that it could heavily affect the Township in a negative way over the coming year. "You are going to have adults using these parks for when they are going to have ball tournaments and soccer tournaments and they could be all adults. I'm just a little upset that this could affect our turnout at some of our functions too."
Mixed emotions were felt by the remaining councillors.
Anyone who decides to break the act could face up to several hundred dollars in fines.
