Zorra Township Ward One Councillor Candidate Ron Forbes has two major issues he would deal with if elected: policing costs, and safe waste storage.
The 58-year-old lifelong Zorra resident says the cost of OPP enforcement rose from $700,000 to $1,000,000 in four years.
"That's just not acceptable. The police are trying to change their model, their way of billing. What they need to do is change how their delivering the services so that they can bring in cheaper prices for the municipalities. That's where the focus has to be: how can we get the same service in a more efficient manner?"
Forbes is also concerned about the future dump, and the effect it could have on the township's water.
He wants to see every angle studied so a future waste site will be 100% safe.
"At the moment I'm not sure we have the technology, or the ability, to say that's going to happen. It's going to be a long haul here - we haven't even got the terms of reference approved. In a year or two, if we get the terms of reference approved, then down the road they're going to have to look at all the technical data; how they're going to do it."
Forbes does commend the volunteer efforts being done to research possible sites for a dump.
