One person is dead after a tire hit a car on the 401 westbound near the Putnam scales this morning.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say a transport truck was heading eastbound when a tire came off and bounced over the median before hitting the car heading west. Police aren't identifying the victim until next-of-kin are notified. The crash has caused quite the mess on the 401 and the section near Putnam heading West was closed to allow for an investigation. The section of the highway has since been reopened.
